Rain pulls down mercury, brings in snowfall in Kashmir
Srinagar, Mar 17 (NITN) Several parts of Kashmir valley experienced intermittent rains since Wednesday night which resulted in a dip in the mercury throughout the region.

According to reports, the rain is still continuing in most parts of the valley.

Some hilly areas received snowfall early on Thursday morning.

The tourist resort of Gulmarg and Tangmarg besides the remote areas of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district received fresh snowfall.

“There will be moderate to heavy rains for two days across Kashmir. Heavy rains will be mostly witnessed in South Kashmir, Pir Panchal and Chenab Valley areas of Jammu region,” Director Meteorological Department, Sonam Lotus, told IBNS.

He said the rains could trigger avalanches in the landslide-prone areas where people need to take extra care.

Earlier, the State Administration issued an order to all Deputy Commissioner to remain alert during heavy rainfall, especially in the hilly areas.

Jammu and Kashmir police have been put on high alert in view of heavy rains and snowfall forecast across the state.
