New Delhi/NITN: Kedarnath, in the Garhwal Himalayas, is set to receive a facelift with several development projects earmarked for this popular pilgrimage centre of Uttarakhand.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on November 5, laid foundation stones and dedicated to the nation these projects in Kedarnath, which include shelters and facilitation centres among other things.

He unveiled the statue of Shri Adi Shankaracharya, the Indian philosopher and theologian whose works had a strong impact on the doctrine of Advaita Vedanta.

He also inaugurated the rebuilt Shri Adi Shankaracharya Samadhi, which was earlier damaged severely in the 2013 floods.

The PM in his speech also said that work for the Chardham Road Project is progressing at a fast pace and also passenger ropeways for Kedarnath and Hemkund Sahib are on the anvil.
